Ambassadors of hope: together against human trafficking

On February 8th, feast of St. Bakhita, the Catholic Church celebrates the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking.

On Saturday March 1st, 2025, Talitha Kum Tinsae Ethiopia organized a prayer service to commemorate the XI international Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking.

The service was held at Holy Saviour parish in Addis Ababa. About a hundred people, including religious and youth, gathered at the parish compound and lit candles to commemorate those who lost their lives and those who are in prison because of illegal migration.

During a procession, participants stopped to read and meditate around key principles of the Catholic Social Teaching that can help us end human trafficking.

After the procession, the participants gathered in the Church to listen to the inspiring journey from slavery to religious life of St. Bakhita, the patron saint of the victims of trafficking, and to the witness of a youth who was held prisoner by human traffickers.


Talitha Kum is an international coalition of national and regional Networks of Consecrated Life working to end human trafficking around the world. the Ethiopian national network was founded in 2020. Sr. Maureen Bennett, MSC has been a member of national team since the beginning.
