Our Identity

OUR VISION

We, Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in communion with the lay people co-responsible for the Cabrinian work, as disciples following Jesus and facing the current reality of the world, our Institute and the calls of the Church, want to walk in synodality over the next six years as a:

Global, ecclesial and inclusive community, continuing the legacy received from Mother Cabrini, in order to respond to emerging challenges in the fields of education, health, social projects and various forms of pastoral care, carrying out co-responsible actions in favor of people’s dignity.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to witness Gospel values by being bearers of Christ’s love on behalf of the vulnerable, strengthening our service and commitment to the defense of human dignity, care for the planet and a culture of peace.

OUR CHARISM

Spreading the love of Jesus to the world

Spreading the love of Jesus to the world 〰️

Mother Cabrini left a tremendous legacy to her daughters, the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Though she did leave a distinguished network of schools, orphanages, and hospitals that would need the continued leadership, care, and maintenance of the Missionary Sisters in concert with dedicated lay people, it was not merely a legacy of brick and mortar. Much more precious than buildings, the heritage that Mother Cabrini entrusted to her daughters was her charism of love and missionary zeal.

As Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our life and spirit flow from a missionary identity expressed in prayer, in community, and in ministry. Our actions flow from values found in the life and teaching of Jesus. We strive to respond to others with compassion and to serve with excellence. We seek to communicate God’s personal love in ways that touch hearts, inspire deeper relationships with God, and foster the authentic human and spiritual development of ourselves and others. This is the Cabrinian mission.

Beyond humanitarian motives, this sense of mission embraces the personal conviction that our service—in education, healthcare, eldercare, social work, retreats, parish and youth ministry, and our work in local and foreign cultures—is the continuation of Jesus’ own mission of bringing God’s love to the world.

OUR SPIRITUALITY

To be bearers of the love of Christ in the world – this is the gift of the Holy Spirit to the people of God. This gift is concretely revealed and expressed through the lives and testimony of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and the vowed members of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in collaboration with Cabrini Lay Missionaries (CLMs), and women and men collaborators in ministry.

Together, attracted by this charism, we share in a variety of ministries through which we strive to be faithful witnesses of Christ’s love in the world.

For Frances Cabrini, the world was too small and no endeavor too large for her missionary zeal.

She healed divisions between God and humanity, bound the world’s wounds, and communicated to all people the certainty of God’s abiding mercy and love.  As participants in this same charism in the Cabrinian Family, we – religious and laity alike – feel a responsibility to continue this reconciling presence in today’s world through a commitment to live the attitudes and desires of the heart of Jesus in our own lives.

At its core, this commitment implies nothing less than a desire to love as Jesus loved, with the total self-gift of our lives, seeking to reach those most vulnerable, neglected, or marginalized.

With God’s grace working in us as in Frances before us, this is our ideal: No work will be too difficult, no land too distant, no person too wounded for the love of the heart of Jesus and for all those invited to be bearers of the love of Christ in the world.
