The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, Blessing of the New Mission and the Entrance to Novitiate in Nairobi, Kenya

Today, March 25th, the Church commemorates the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, a profound moment in the Catholic liturgical calendar. This day marks the angel Gabriel's visit to Mary, announcing that she would conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. This event is significant as it highlights Mary's acceptance and profound faith in God's plan.

Sr. Maureen and Sr. Ruth together with their Novice Director, Sr. Genet Henok, MSC.

In a parallel to today’s celebration, the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Holy Spirit Region officially opened a new house in Kenya. This was done by blessing of the new Novitiate and celebration of the Holy Mass presided by Fr. Odomaro Mubangizi, SJ. The Sisters present rejoiced together as Sr. Ruth Mukelemani and Sr. Maureen Anyega took a significant step in their religious life’s journey by entering the novitiate, this took place in Nairobi, where Sr. Barbara Staley, our regional superior received the two Novices in the presence of Sr. Patricia Godoy, General superior Council, Sr. Genet Henok and the little sisters of St. Joseph who were invited.

The period of the novitiate is spent in a formation community under the guidance of the Novice Director who is responsible for the novitiate and its program. Sr. Genet Henok will be the Novice Director of these two wonderful sisters who entered Novitiate today. The duration of the Novitiate program is two years, including an apostolic experience of six months. During these duration, our novices will be integrating their experiences with God, the Cabrinian Charism and spirituality, mission, relationships in the community and experience with the world of the poor.

For Sr. Ruth and Sr. Maureen, this milestone is a testament of their devotion and willingness to continue bearing the Love of Christ. Their journey into the novitiate is not only a personal commitment but also a celebration for the entire community, symbolizing hope, renewal, and dedication to a life of missionary.

In the spirit of the Annunciation, both events highlight the theme of embracing one's calling with faith and courage. As the Church celebrates the Annunciation, it also embraces and supports those who, like Mary, say "yes" to their divine calling.

Let us keep both Sr. Maureen and Sr. Ruth in our daily prayers.
